Overview / Symptoms

  • Toxoplasma gondii infects cats through eating contaminated food or eating infected rodents. It can be transmitted between animals through ingesting the parasite
  • Spread to humans through having close contact with infected animal feces, consuming fecally contaminated fruits and vegetables or eating undercooked meat
  • Toxoplasmosis poses the greatest risk to pregnant women and people with weakened immune systems
  • Most often transmitted to humans through cleaning cat litter boxes
