Overview / Symptoms

  • Symptoms in pigs include fever, coughing, discharge from the nose or eyes, sneezing, breathing difficulties, eye redness or inflammation, and going off feed. Sometimes animals will show no symptoms
  • Most often the humans at risk are veterinarians and hog farmers
  • In humans, it causes a string of the influenza virus H1N1 strain with typical influenza symptoms
  • Not transmitted through consuming pork
